Simulator Progress – Multi Monitor

Work continues on my simulator. I now have a fully functioning control panel working with software wrappers that allow it to integrate with multiple flight simulations. Other additions include 3 front speaker mounts fabricated from Vex structural hardware to hang the speakers below the displays.

Now I can start integration with Glass for the affective computing/augmented reality portion of my research!

I did encounter an interesting problem once I added all 3 30″ U3014 monitors. Each has a USB 3.0 hub, and when I connected all three to USB 3.0 ports on my motherboard I began having intermittent problems with various USB ports freezing or becoming disabled. I suspect it is excessive power draw and/or insufficient USB resources (will need to troubleshoot to confirm). If so, a USB 3 expansion card that is powered will alleviate the problem. Needless to say, there are 20+ USB peripherals that are part of the simulator platform, so the USB buses must be reliable.
